What was really good about the experience?
As an exchange student, I have been warmly welcomed by the staff and students at Aberystwyth and have made some wonderful friends in the short time I have been here. The dining experience, especially at TaMed Da is wonderful and very convenient, and the new IBERS building is very up-to-date. I love the blend of historic architecture and modern teaching, and the town is wonderful to walk around. The scenery is incredible.

It would be easier to give exchange students accommodation in a residence hall that does not require complete evacuation at the end of term time.

What was really good about the experience?
It was Great place to be especially as everything you need is within a 5 minute walk, with lots of pubs, Shops even a 24hr store and 2 night clubs. The Campus is great and a nice place to be, and the library + the old college is the best place to get y. ou immersed in education!

What was really good about the experience?
Aberystwyth University on the whole is a brilliant experience. If there's something that you want to do here - in regards to sports and societies... You can do it. I play American Football and I am really enjoying it. The accommodation here is smartly built so that the students get on well with one another and there is cohesiveness between the different accommodations.

With the introduction of higher fees less people will apply for uni. So the issue with bunk beds and shared rooms will be eliminated. Not really much to improve on.

We do have over 50 pubs and clubs... Also a beach. A zoo close by, lots of people to make you laugh... And we have the National Library of Wales on our doorstep. So you can't complain about the lack of books in the library!

i think the town centre should be more developed with shopping malls, to give different options when shopping. also, the transport system should be upgraded, and the housing. since Aberystwyth is a student town, their should be an area of housing like a student village were students can easily get houses after their contracts expires, and the prices should be minimum. right now getting a private accommodation is difficult as most of the houses are already taken. the ones present are either miles away, or extremely expensive.

Generally the Abers community is a very welcoming one. The Teaching staff are really enthusiastic about therir subjects and seem to really care about Students. The Social life is also great even though Abers isn't the biggest uni there is always a lot going on like the Monster Ball at Halloween and the Snow ball as well as weekly events "Mad Fridays" etc.

There is a lot of competition for private sector accomodation which means that it can be stressfull when searching for next year accomodation however the Uni are really supportive and try and give you as much help and advice as possible.

What was really good about the experience?
There's a really friendly, intimate vibe about Aberystwyth! as a small town university, I found that i made close friends quickly; and you seem to bump into friendly places all over the place. I found that it was small enough to feel familiar and 'at home', whilst also big enough to be independant and feel like i was properly 'moving away.' The quality of education within my department is of a high standard, and the facilities available are fantastic. The arts centre (private business on campus-working closely with the university) hosts a fantastic variety of events of a high standard. During my first semester, Reginald D. Hunter and Jimmy Carr were two stand up comedians that made the (somewhat remote) trip to aberystwyth; which shows the standard of artists that are on the circuit here. There are only 3 (i think) clubs in Aberystwyth, which can be seen as a good or bad thing. Personally, i don't understand how anyone truly likes clubbing; and so i think it is amazing-everyone goes to the pubs and bars, and has a fantastic time! oh, and did i mention that the cost of living (food etc.) is really cheap?!

The accommodation availability is sketchy; and the accommodation office staff are...sketchy. I know many tales about people having trouble with them. This year, the university oversubscribed by 400, necessitating the introduction of bunk beds into single rooms. However, although I was placed in a bunk room, I actually ended up living very happily with one of my closest friends. Looking for second year accommodation is very difficult, and the university is currently building more halls of residence to compensate for the lack of private accommodation. My main advice would be to apply EARLY for halls for first year, and for 2nd year gather information early, BE WARY of the letting agencies (they will try to rip you off/take advantage of your inexperience) and don't panic/rush into any hasty decisions in december or october.

What was really good about the experience?
Well I'm curently living and loving the experience - it is the experience of my life. The teaching quality is remarkable - the lecturers all seem to have the highest love for what they teach so we all get engaged easily. We are trained to the University standard of Academic writing at a very high level early on. My biggest fear was always going to be writing a dull A-Level essay, but fear not! Your trained how to do it from the moment you get here and you get plenty of practise. The night life is FABULOUS and the social events and clubs are awesome. I love it here! I guess the only thing would be travel - it's not exactly the centre hub of travelling so getting home can be a pain for some, but by goodness it's worth it!!!

The private accomodation is my only concern. It is where Aberystwyth falls down. Too many people out there are trying to rip off students which has an impact on the life we live here (although I guess many other Uni area's face the same problem). Some of us will be living more poorly for a bit because of hefty deposits and it generally seems to be quite expensive. So the only problem would be year 2 at Aberystwyth because in year three one can choose to go back into University Accomodation. But that's my personal experience so far and like I say, there are many people anywhere that try to rip off, so my advice would be - don't be rushed into anything housing-wise.

Student life is amazing, Sporting activities and societies are well organised. Facilities are abundant and all staff are friendly. The sea view from my accommodation is breath taking and my halls are definitely value for money.

What was really good about the experience?
It's a wonderful university with some of the most friendly people in the UK. Everyone is so helpful and kind. The teaching is first rate and and learning facilities are second to none (save the redbricks who clearly get more funding and hence can afford it). The local area is beautiful and theirs always something going off, you've always got friends in Aberystwyth.

What was really good about the experience?
Friendly, open environment and a good rapport between both students and teaching staff alike. Beautiful grounds, plenty of fresh air and open space, with sea views from my uni accommodation window. Brilliant resources for my course, both for online and traditional library based work. Aberystwyth isn't just a university; it's a frame of mind and life-style.

What could be improved?
Teaching standards - higher-quality staff are constantly being lost from departments and replaced with comparably amateurish staff. Subjects taught are limited in their breadth of coverage. Housing - private housing sector is abhorrent. Crowded, and of exceptionally low quality in many cases, yet grossly overpriced. A few landlords hold monopolies over the town and keep prices high and quality low. University makes no effort to address the problem. Tuition fees - in no conceivable way is the university of a standard that can justify £9k per year fees.

What was really good about the experience?
The social life. As it is a small university you know lot's of the people and are almost certainly going to meet other people whilst out which helps improve the night. For football fans there is the Aber town Football team which is cheap to watch and it's a good laugh with a few mates. There is also the DIGS league if you want to play football. It's a really good way to meet people and stay fit.

Aberystwyth is such a lovely remote town that you just get absorbed into the separate world that is Aber. A town where you know everyone and everyone is a friend. No matter where you go you'll always bump into someone you know. Friendliest town in the world!

For me Aberystwyth is perfect. For me there is nothing that could be done to improve it. Some may argue that more up to date facilities like a new cinema would be an improvement, but for me, the fact that such facilities are so outdated and retro just adds to the experience and magic that is Aber.

What was really good about the experience?
Regardless of it being isolated on the Cardigan coast, it is nothing but a benefit. Everyone is friendly, the social life is fantastic, and ofcourse most importantly the teaching quality and departments are brilliant. Always have an open-door policy and able to go the extra mile for students. Lectures, seminars, workshops are all fantastic. Very nice people, and everyone knows each other due to such a 'small' town. A lot of culture, a lot of fun, a very beautiful place. Beach, sun, social life. What was really good about the experience?
The accommodation is beautiful, I lived in a big double bedroom with en en-suite right on the seafront. Everyone I met was lovely, I made many new friends, and even though there arent many clubs in Aberystwyth the few that are there make for a good (cheap) night out. Also, the views in Aber are stunning, absolutely stunning.

In my opinion there is very little that needs to be improved, apart from maybe our Uni bringing back Carnage, because it has now been banned at our Uni. And also extending the IT facilities so when its close to exam days and deadline days you are more likely to get a computer.

The people, everyone is really friendly and welcoming here. Aberystwyth is definitely a student town, so it feels like you are a part of a student community. They could do with more things to do in the town in the daytime, you have a choice of a few shops, the pier or cinema at 7.30 and there is only so many times you can spend the day in the pub before you liver starts to hate you! A ski lift or escalator would also be very handy for the HUGE hill!

More accommodation we had 2 people living in our house for the 1st month of term because they couldnt find anywhere to live!

What was really good about the experience?
The teaching staff are amazing and really supportive. I was in a car accident that broke my neck and left me unable to return in September. When I cam back in November the staff were amazing in helping me to catch up on missed work.

The accommodation needs to be sorted. Bunk beds isn't a viable option for freshers. Especially shy first years, they shouldn't be made to share a room because the university over subscribed. Also the rooms with bunk beds have limited storage for two people.

What was really good about the experience?
Everyone knows each other and its a really friendly town and beautiful too. Also the university make the best of what they have got considering how small Aberystwyth is. Superteams and Rugby 7s are both top weekends.
