John Lewis Partnership

Employer profile

We are a different kind of business. And we aim to give our graduates every opportunity to make a difference to our business. This is why we run a number of graduate schemes that offer a range of options for driven and ambitious people to develop their expertise and have a real say in determining the future of the partnership.

The partnership offers a range of exciting graduate schemes for ambitious individuals seeking early challenges and responsibility. The schemes include retail management for store based managers of the future and head office roles, perfect for those who’d prefer to develop specialist expertise in key business support functions, and a challenging general management programme with insights into a range of business activities for those demonstrating exceptional leadership potential.

Because everyone who works for the John Lewis Partnership co-owns it as a partner, graduates will find the opportunity to shape the way the business is run, sharing its profits, and benefit from a host of exceptional benefits.

Training programmes

Candidates for all schemes will follow the partnership core development programme, plus specific training as follows:

Waitrose Graduate Leadership Scheme

Three year rotational scheme:

Year 1 — Branch based (within 35 mile radius of Bracknell)

Year 2 — Head office based (Bracknell). Placements for the year could be in a variety of departments including marketing, retail support, supply chain or in partnership services (our shared services division)

Year 3 — Head office (Bracknell) or branch-based (within 35 mile radius of Bracknell)

Candidates will study towards a professional management qualification in Year 2 and 3.

Candidates will work towards acquiring the skills to become one of the senior leaders in the business.

John Lewis Retail Management

Our fast track graduate training scheme is a broad based retail management training scheme. Our short term aim is that graduate trainees achieve a level of performance demonstrating their ability to take on a position at department manager level within 12-18 months of joining the business. In the long term, the overall aim is that graduates will be in senior management positions within 3-5 years. Trainees will be based in two branches for their training period, usually 12-18 months.
