What was really good about the experience?

Liverpool is such an incredible city in so many aspects. Social life is phenomenal- there is such a wide variety of bars/clubs/pubs with something for everyone. It is also a relatively cheap place to live which as a starving student is a necessity! The city just buzzes and the people are always so warm and friendly. Academically speaking Liverpool University is great as well. My lecturers have been very insightful and they are ready to help you if you are struggling. Problems tend to be dealt with very quickly. I would recommend Liverpool to everyone.

What could be improved?

I was in Rankin halls on the Carnatic site, althought I enjoyed my time there, the food really wasnt great, so I would end up just buying most of my food which was more expensive. I didnt realise when I applied how far away my halls were from the Campus, a bus pass is a necessity- thats really quite expensive. I feel some sort of free bus would really help people out. I spent quite a bit of money on transport as Carnatic into town really isnt walking distance, its about 25mins drive.

What could be improved?

Teaching in the languages department was awful - teachers were biased and generally not very good at teaching anything to a university standard.

The university replies:

We are fully committed to providing a first-rate student experience at Liverpool and have been pleased with recent results from the National Student Survey which indicate that overall satisfaction with academic support in Cultures, Languages and Area studies has gone up by 11% since 2009. According to the annual survey, some 90% of students in the department think staff are good at explaining things, and 89% of students agreed that staff are enthusiastic about what they are teaching. As part of our commitment to the experience students have at the University of Liverpool, we are also investing some £600 million in University facilities, including a £32 million investment in teaching facilities in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
