London Metropolitan Visa Licence Revoked

Around 2,000 non-EU overseas students at London Metropolitan University face deportation. The university has had its right to recruit and teach overseas students revoked by the UK Border Agency after its failure to address serious failings in its systems, including checking course attendance.

Financial support for Scottish students announced

Scottish students received encouraging news today with an announcement on student funding and financial support by Scottish Education Secretary Michael Russell.

UCAS Clearing and Adjustment for 2012

UCAS Clearing figures yesterday (Tuesday 21 August) show that out of a possible 408,000 students, only 1,138 (less than 0.3%) students gaining university places this year have used the Adjustment Period to trade up to a course with higher entrance requirements. This is an increase on last year of 621 students using Adjustment at this stage in the Clearing process.

Figures reported this morning (Friday) show that some 372,000 students have a confirmed place at university, compared with 402,000 at this point in Clearing last year. While there are 170,000 students eligible for Clearing, some 80,000 are waiting for a decision. Almost 3,700 students have found places through Clearing so far.

Results: top A grades down, but pass level still rising

A slight drop in the highest A-level grades, A and A* was announced today for the first time in two decades, but as some 335,000 students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland received their results it was also the case that the overall pass rate has increased again.

Complete University Guide reveals UK’s largest employers of graduates

The Complete University Guide today reveals that the multiple arms of Boots – the Nottingham-based pharmaceutical and retail group – recruit the greatest number of UK graduates seeking graduate-level employment. The Complete University Guide’s analysis of the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey shows that the company’s various divisions recruited more than 520 graduates in 2009–10.

Are you an A level student awaiting your exam results tomorrow? Hopefully you will be celebrating, but it is wise to have a plan of action depending on whether or not you get the grades you need for your chosen university and course.

Clearing is not the only choice for students this week – advice line for international universities launched

A level exam results are published in England, Wales and Northern Ireland tomorrow (Thursday 16 August). While most students will be pleased with their grades and have a university place waiting for them in September, others will be disappointed not to have reached the standard required for their chosen course or will have changed their mind about choice of course or university.
