Percentage of first-class degrees doubles

One in six students gained first class degrees in 2012 – Data released this week by HESA (the Higher Education Statistics Agency) shows that the percentage of students gaining top first-class degrees has doubled in ten years. The number gaining firsts or two-one degrees has also risen again to 66% in 2012, up from 61% five years ago and 64% last year. The Complete University Guide classes first class or 2.1 (upper second class) degrees as 'good honours' degrees in its annual rankings.
