Scottish exam results released and UCAS clearing starts in earnest
Students in Scotland receive their exam results today, with a record number passing their Higher exams. Dr Janet Brown, chief executive of the SQA, said: "The increased number of qualifications achieved by candidates not only reflects their hard work and commitment, but also the value they place on qualifications, particularly in this difficult economic climate."
Some 160,000 Scottish students are awaiting their results today, for Highers, Advanced Highers and Standard Grades; and 182 Scottish students also sat the Scottish Baccalaureate exam this year.
Mike Russell, the Education Secretary, said that every 16 to 19-year-old is guaranteed a place in education or training through the Opportunities for All initiative.
