What was really good about the experience?
Its on an amazing campus where everything is close by, located in a great town (biggest in the UK), the Union is amazing! majority of buildings are pretty nice too. Reading really cares about its students.

What was really good about the experience?
I loved studying at Reading; the tutors are really supportive and always have time for a chat. The library are excellent; if they don't have the right book for you, they will order it in(!) and/or arrange a cross-library loan for you. There are 24 hour safe study areas (important if you're a girl!) and campus security are friendly. Student Halls are on the up, with a new development being built as we speak. There is plenty of student support available (careers, counselling, peer support, IT training, personal tutors) and detailed feedback is provided for each assignment. Generous bursaries are provided, which are usefully split into 20/40/40 over the three terms (percentages) - so your first year splurge won't spend all your cash for the year! Friendly, happy atmosphere - and campus is beautifully green. There's a real community spirit here - perfect if you're from a small town and struggle to see yourself fitting in in London. Nightlife is good - if you're into rock bars, there are a few knocking around. Plenty of clubs, and the Halls usually provide discounted tickets for club nights.

What could be improved?
With the recession the job market in Reading has nosedived - I worked freelance to make ends meet, but other students went back home for the vacation periods. This can potentially prove costly. Also, rent in Reading is fairly expensive; I pay £750 for a 1 bedroom apartment per month. Halls are cheaper, and it is encouraging that the University does provide plenty of in Hall accomodation for students. Be aware - the recession has hit everywhere, not just Reading! Also, the Uni has some great job boards on the intranet, so not all hope is lost!

What was really good about the experience?
Reading has an amazing atmosphere, the campus is just beautiful. The staff are friendly and helpful, unlike staff at other universities who are more concerned with the publication of their new books rather than student support. Languages department is great!

What could be improved?
The module based learning was good for mixing and matching subject areas you were interested in however little thought seemed to go in to making your compulsory choice complimentary,

Reading is an amazing place to study. I spent the best years of my life there. The staff are spectacular, especially those in the Modern Languages Department. The campus is also very nice and scenic.
