School of Management

Full-time MBA

Accreditations: AMBA

Programme features

The Southampton MBA reflects the nature and context of the manager in a 21st-century organisation. The curriculum draws on the School’s reputation in research, and the programme is delivered through a modular and integrative approach.

General understanding of leadership, business and management are addressed in modules such as:

  • Organisations in Global Context
  • Contemporary Marketing
  • Quality and Operations Management
  • Accounting: Measuring and Managing Performance
  • Strategy
  • Corporate Finance
  • Managing People for Performance
  • Decision Modelling and Analysis
  • Project Management
  • Supply Management
  • Logistics Management

These are followed by Application of Management Skills, which is an integrative module emphasising application of topics studied in the previous modules. This takes place in the context of four distinct managerial roles:

  • The Creator
  • The Investigator (consultancy skills and research methods)
  • The Decision Maker
  • The Champion

The teaching approach facilitates reflection and development of an integrative approach to personal learning, and identification of potential of organisational development that can lead to substantial business impact.

All modules address in particular issues of responsible management/ethics, environmental sustainability and globalisation.

Programme features

The Southampton part-time MBA stream offers the same features as the full-time study mode. Entry to the programme is in late September and February. During each academic year, half of the core units will be scheduled during day-time, and the remainder in the evenings. Core units delivered during the day during one year will normally be delivered in the evenings during the following year. In this way, students are able to choose whether they undertake mainly day-time or evening study, or simply choose whatever pattern of attendance suits them from time to time.
