Strathclyde Business School

Full-Time MBA

Accreditations: AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS

Programme features

The Strathclyde full-time, one year MBA is not just a business programme: it is a stimulating, challenging, potentially life-changing experience, which will make you question, re-think and re-evaluate how you do business.

The Strathclyde MBA is highly experiential and based on collaborative learning – students from around the world share their varied work experiences, knowledge, understanding and skills.

The MBA will shape and guide you as a reflective, open-thinking, adaptive learner. This is facilitated through enhanced understanding of the interplay of theory and practice in management.

In terms of content, the MBA gives you a broad understanding of management issues at a senior level along with appropriate skills and techniques. It draws on a number of specialist areas, and offers a degree of specialisation, if required, but we do not aim to train specialists. Rather, our purpose is to develop you in diverse areas of management. While many traditional MBA programmes consist of a set of unlinked single discipline classes, we recognise that the job of a senior manager involves making decisions across a wide range of functions. The Strathclyde MBA therefore offers you a holistic, integrated approach to management. Classes include:

  • Finance and Financial Management
  • Financial and  Management Accounting
  • Marketing Management
  • Operations Management
  • Analytical Support for Decision Making
  • Managing People in Organisations
  • Exploring the International Business Environment
  • Comparative Corporate Governance
  • The Learning  Manager
  • Entrepreneurial Management and Leadership
  • Strategy Analysis and Evaluation
  • Making Strategy
  • Strategic Consulting in Practice

Participants will also be able to choose two elective classes – there are usually over 20 classes on offer from a wide range of subject specialists. Any MBA student, regardless of route, is able to take advantage of the annual MBA Electives Summer School in Glasgow each May and June, allowing you to study elective choices alongside like-minded international colleagues.

For those unable to attend the summer school, elective classes are also offered on a part-time basis and at our international centres. The capstone element of the Strathclyde MBA is the MBA project, which gives you an opportunity to examine in depth a managerial, organisational or environmental issue of your choice over an extended period of time.

Part-Time MBA

Accreditations: AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS

Programme features

The Strathclyde MBA is an internationally-recognised management qualification aimed at talented, ambitious and well-qualified people with solid business experience.

Strathclyde’s part-time MBA (evening study in Glasgow with October intake) is ideally suited to working managers who want to gain a valued and well-established management qualification in a way best suited to their professional and personal circumstances. Typically, participants complete their degree in around 3 years, although it is possible to accelerate the programme to complete in a little over 2 years.

A major strength of the part-time route lies in the immediacy of the relationship between managerial practice and the course. Members of the part-time route bring to their classes and groups the issues they deal with on a day-to-day basis and in-depth knowledge of current practice in their industry.

The MBA aims to provide a broad understanding of business and management issues and to develop management skills and techniques as well as promote self-awareness as a manager and leader. It prepares you for higher level, policy-forming positions, opening up new career opportunities and allowing a smooth progression from a technical specialism to general management.
