Deferring when I've received a conditional offer

Is there any advantage to applying to a university to defer when offered a (conditional) place i.e. now as opposed to waiting until get results?
Answered by Alison Patterson
It is probably better to ask the university now for a deferment rather than risk an institution with low numbers saying no in August. The risks are probably pretty low, but you are asking them to accept a change to your UCAS application.
