Awaiting an offer (or rejection) after interview. How long can universities take?

How long is the process of waiting after a interview for an offer or rejection? My son is still awaiting a reply from a university and he had the interview just over 3 weeks ago.

This must feel like an eternity whilst you are anxiously awaiting a decision. but universities can work to their own timescales within UCAS limits. The interview process may take 3-6 weeks so individual decisions may be delayed until after all applicants have been considered.

As good practice the university should keep the applicant informed on timescales and progress. We’d suggest that your son contacts the university direct for an update if he's really worried, but he will hear in due course.
