Accommodation - Private or Halls?

Is it better to rent one of the new student flats in the halls close to the uni or better to rent from a private landlord? Which one is cheaper? Is it difficult to find a place to stay? Should I begin room hunting before I arrive or no worries?
Answered by Alison Patterson
Living in university halls will ensure you are near the university and surrounded by other like-minded students, so you'll be likely to make friends. However It is likely to be more expensive than private, rented accommodation.
I would definitely recommend sorting this by the time you arrive unless you have somewhere comfortable to stay in the meantime.
You should contact the university accommodation for advice and lists of private landlords.
