Student Loan repayments

My daughter left her uni course early (during February of her 1st year) and is already being hassled by Student Finance to repay part of her loan, £674.00, and part of her GRANT, £429.00 as she left the course in February, 4 weeks before the next payments. Is it right that she will have to pay £1103 back now before she even has a job? Any advice appreciated.

Hello Susan,

Has your daughter been contacted by the Student Loans Co.?

www.slc.co.uk/

Information about loan repayment can be found at:

www.slc.co.uk/students/loan-repayment.aspx

media.slc.co.uk/repayment/qsg/index.html

media.slc.co.uk/repayment/qsg/how-do-i-repay.html

Your daughter may have received a statement of her outstanding debt rather than a request for payment. Loan repayments are usually collected through the PAYE scheme and should be triggered when income hits £21k per year.

I suggest your daughter contacts SLC to clarify the particulars:

www.slc.co.uk/contact/customer-enquiries.aspx

Tel: 0300 100 0607

Hope this works out for both of you.
