How much do AS results matter?

Got my AS results yesterday - A in English Lit, A in Economics, C in Physics (one mark below B so may get this remarked) and D in Maths. I was predicted an A in Maths and feel disappointed that I didn't get higher than what I got. I want to do Economics at uni and hope to go to a good uni such as Bath or Nottingham. However, both of these require at least grade A maths at A2. Does it matter that I did so badly in my AS? Will they look at this and not give me an offer?

Hello,

It isn’t going to help. However, a lot will depend on whether there is a plausible story about why the result was so bad and why the expectation for A2 is much better, so the predicted grade needs to be good with an explanation from the school as to why the result will improve.

Best of luck,

CUG
