Deferring university course
Jan 2019I have received an offer from a university to start this year. I am now considering taking a gap year and wondering if I can start next year with deferred entry?
You need to ask the university if they will allow you to defer, as it is their choice whether they agree. They’ll be less likely to object if you plan on doing any relevant experience to your course during your gap year. If they do agree, the formalities can be finalised with UCAS. It's probably best to do this now, rather than at results time (as long as you are certain you want to change your mind). For more information on replying to offers, read our article on it.
