Applying to study in the USA

What steps do I take in order to study in the USA?
Answered by Alison Patterson
If you want to apply to a US university to study for an undergraduate degree you must apply online. Most universities accept direct applications; many also accept the Common Application.

You may need to take a SAT or ACT.

It is important that you read university websites carefully and thoroughly research the process. Bear in mind that you apply to the university, not to take a course. You do not have to declare a Major at the outset. The four-year undergraduate program in the US is intended to be broad-based so that you do not limit your options initially. In this respect it is quite different to a British degree course which tends to be about specialisation.
