Deferring university entry

I know it is possible to defer entry into university but does it depend on some courses and universities?
Answered by Alison Patterson
Our full guide to deferring is found at:

In short, around 8% of applications are for deferred entry, a substantial amount when you think about it. I haven't heard of any courses or unis which specifically discriminate against deferred entry.

If you want to defer, this is something you should indicate on your UCAS form. If you decide after applying that you wish to defer you must contact the university to gain their agreement. It is a matter of communicating with UCAS and the university.
