Can you defer entry when entered into Cearing?

I was just wondering if when going through Clearing do you have to go straight to the university that year. Can you ask to defer a year if you are accepted through Clearing?
Answered by Alison Patterson
If you accept a course for 2014 start date that is what you are committed to. If you want to defer you must talk to the university direct whilst discussing Clearing places with them. They may not be enthusiastic. If they do not allow you to defer you will have to start this Autumn or be released from the offer.

During Clearing, universities are aiming to fill their places for this year so it may be hard. Otherwise I'd suggest reapplying during next year's UCAS cycle. Especially if you have your heart set on taking a year out.
