Does the school attended affect applications to Cambridge University?

Are you aware of any evidence that Cambridge colleges have a preference for limiting the number of students they admit from the same secondary school?
My son is applying for Maths for Oct 2014 entry. He wants to choose the same college as another student from his class at school. Both are strong candidates. Would it be better for them to apply to different colleges?

If this is a concern you should ask Cambridge. However, we have never come across any suggestion that this may be a factor. Also, both Oxford and Cambridge have mechanisms in place to try to ensure they admit the best students regardless of which college they apply to.
