Am I eligible for both the maintenance loan and a government grant due to having a low household income?

My household income is £6,000, am I eligible for both the maintenance grant and loan?
Answered by Alison Patterson
You are certainly eligible for both the maintenance grant and loan due to your household income.

There is a sliding scale however, and the loan is reduced in line with an increased grant. The amount of Maintenance Loan you can get will be reduced by 50p for every £1 of Maintenance Grant you get.

A full grant is £3387, which reduces the loan to £4047, giving a total of about £7400 per year(of which 3387 does not have to be repaid).

Note that you will also be able to obtain a loan to cover your tuition fees.
