Top tips for Clearing
When you are looking for a university place through Clearing or Adjustment, it is natural to feel under pressure. Keep a cool, clear mind and don't rush your decision. Clearing and Adjustment starts on Friday 5th July 2019 for those who have already received their results. Our Clearing team will be on hand to help students find university places for September.
For those who will receive their A Level results on Thursday 15th August 2019, the Clearing process can be an extremely over-whelming time, take a deep breath, get organised, and follow these tips:
Be prepared for Clearing and Adjustment before you receive your results. Research universities that offer the course you want to study and might accept your grades, whether you have done better or worse than expected.
Get support from friends and family
If possible, get help from the people around you. Ask them to help with your research, give feedback on your shortlist and help you stay calm and focus on your goal: getting into the university that's right for you.
Speak to City first
If you like the look of a City course, call the uni before you contact UCAS. It doesn't accept unsolicited applications, so you need to check your eligibility first. You can reach City on the hotline number: 0333 733 9119.
Please don't ask a friend, parent, guardian or teacher to call on your behalf. City need to hear about your qualifications, motivation and interests directly from you.
When you call, have a pen and paper to hand. It can also help to have your laptop or PC nearby. You will need to the following information:
- Your UCAS personal ID
- Your email address (City will send you an email if you are offered a place, so please make sure you provide an email address you have access to)
- Details of your exam results (grades achieved and subjects)
- Details of the course you want to apply for.
If you are applying through Clearing to study at City this autumn, you should be considering where you will want to live. The following information will help you to balance your preferences with the location, availability and cost of student accommodation in London.
Unfortunately, City cannot guarantee Clearing applicants a place in the university's nominated Halls of Residence. You can still put in an application, though it is recommended you also look into other options. City have joined with the University of London Housing Service (ULHS) to give you access to private housing advisers, a large property database, private housing guidance and legal housing advice including contract-checking.
