Jamie, Forensic Science BSc (Hons)

What circumstances led you to entering Clearing?

I changed my mind about what I wanted to study. I realised I didn’t want to study Maths. I was good at it and so when others told me to study it at uni, I decided it was the easy option and to just go for it.

Did you do any preparation or research before Results Day?

No, and I really wish I had.

Who helped you go through Clearing?

My family and the people at Bournemouth University.

How did you find out what courses were available?

Searching on the UCAS website.

What was the main reason for choosing the course you chose?

I’d wanted to study Forensics from a probably disturbing young age, so my mum suggested I look at those courses and thus I found the one I’m on.

Did you attend a university Clearing Open Day, if so did you find it useful?

I did, on the day after Results Day. It was really helpful to see the campus, surrounding area and accommodation.

Did you find a place to live easily?

BU guaranteed accommodation, which was really attractive to me, and I ended up in a really nice accommodation block with lovely flatmates.

How has your time at university been? Have you enjoyed your course?

I am so excited to come back in September and carry on with the course. I’m only one year down but ready to go again. It’s so interesting and I have such a passion for the subject that I completely forgot about.

What would be your top tip for students in the lead up to Results Day?

Try not to worry yourself too much. You probably worked really hard throughout your exams and you will get the results to reflect that. Even if you really think you’re not going to need to go through Clearing, I would really suggest signing up for some Clearing alerts and doing your research, you never know when it could come in handy.

Connor, Accounting & Finance BSc (Hons)

Wanting to stay at home. Realising that I had a second chance through Clearing.

Did you do any preparation or research before results day?

I looked into other uni’s, such as Manchester and Bath just in case my grades where lower.

Who helped you go through Clearing?

My UCAS leader and my college tutor Laura helped me get on the right track by giving me my estimated target for finishing college to get into Bournemouth University.

How did you find out what courses were available?

Bournemouth University website.

What was the main reason for choosing the course you chose?

There are lots of great facilities at the uni. I have lots of older friends who recommend the library and the support you get from SUBU and the overall look and vibe from the uni Open Day.

Did you attend a university Clearing open day, if so did you find it useful?

Yes, I attended one in July after I already gained admission.

Yes, as a local, I found a place to move closer to the uni in Branksome.

Excellent! Lots of support from my lecturers and fast responses from emails. Varied lecture times allow me to balance a job and a social life too.
