Clearing Success Story – Kate, Nottingham Trent University

Kate, NTU
Kate, 21

21-year-old Kate from County Durham found her course, Fashion Management at Nottingham Trent University, through Clearing.

What degree had you originally applied for and where?

I originally applied for Fashion Marketing at the University of Leeds.

What circumstances led you to enter Clearing? Tell us about the ups and downs of A Level Results Day.

I missed my grade for Leeds by very little, and my heart was set on going there. I was gutted to not get my place. However, a careers consultant told me Nottingham Trent had some places, and that they were one of the best universities for Fashion. I called up and spoke on the phone and made an almost instant decision to go to Nottingham Trent.

Did you do any preparation or research before Results Day?

Not on Clearing as I never really thought it would be necessary. I also didn't look at Nottingham Trent as I wanted to stay close to home.

Where did you go for help and support throughout the process?

I spoke to my careers advisers in my sixth form college and Nottingham Trent’s Clearing hotline. Both were very calm and helpful.

What factors made you finally settle on the course you chose?

The course had been running for a very long time and has amazing links with the industry. The staff are also very experienced.

Did you find a place to live easily?

Yes. I got a place in private halls on the same day my offer was accepted.

How has your time at university been? Has it delivered what you were looking for and are you happy?

I have had an incredible university experience. I’ve loved my course and feel very fortunate to have come to Nottingham Trent. A highlight has been the opportunity to complete a placement year in London.

How has your course supported or changed your career ambitions?

The career support has been amazing! I secured a placement in London and I feel confident that after university I will be more employable as a result.
