Clearing Success Stories – University of Gloucestershire
These three students successfully found their places at the University of Gloucestershire through Clearing.
Lizzy Yarnold MBE, Geography and Sport and Exercise Science graduate, Olympic Winter Games Skeleton Gold Medallist 2014 and 2018
Gloucestershire push all of its students to be unstoppable, no matter how they get here. Olympic Winter Games 2014 Gold Medallist and University of Gloucestershire graduate Lizzy Yarnold believes keeping calm is the key to success:
“My advice would be don’t panic. There is time to find the right university. Compile a shortlist of what key things you would like from your course and university, call around and see what fits best, then go for it!”
Lizzy found herself in Clearing when she hadn’t achieved the grades she needed to study at her first choice university. She discovered skeleton in her first year and was supported by staff and lecturers to balance her studies with competing and training. She is now the most decorated British Winter Olympian ever.
Claire, mature student, Creative Writing
“I was looking to take my career in a new direction. I am a single mum and have been a freelance copywriter for the past 20 years, working from home. I wanted to work alongside like-minded, creative people. When I saw the Creative Writing degree at the university, it seemed the perfect fit for me. Everyone I spoke to was extremely helpful and really boosted my confidence. I was really excited to be starting a new challenge.”
Zoe, second year student, Animal Biology
“I decided to go through Clearing as I was unsure what I wanted to do at the time. What I found helpful is that the university have good ties with almost all of the local landlords in the area, making it easier to find houses if halls are full. I also liked that they rang me often while I was trying to find a house, just to update me. It helped make the whole process less stressful.”
