What circumstances led you to entering Clearing?

I didn’t get the grades I needed to do what I'd originally applied for – Radiography.

Did you do any preperation or research before Results Day?

I had researched accommodation and what I needed for my course in terms of books and how I could progress.

Did anyone help you through Clearing?

I was helped by my mother, UCAS and staff at the University of Derby.

How did you find out what courses were available?

I looked through the Clearing options on the UCAS website.

What was the main reason for choosing the course you chose?

I came to the Open Day at the university and I fell in love with the content of the course, facilities at the university, and staff, and Derby town centre.

Did you attend a university or college Clearing Open Day? If so, did you find it useful?

Yes. It was extremely helpful - the staff were friendly and gave me all the information I needed. I got a chance to see a crime scene house with a lecturer and he told me more about the course and made me feel welcome.

Did you find a place to live easily?

Yes. I managed to get student accommodation with the university in my first year. For the other two years, I lived in other student houses.

How has your time at university been? Have you enjoyed your course?

My time at university has been challenging, fun and rewarding. I was able to take part in societies, contributing to the university in poetry and representing the university in competitions. My course lectures taught me skills I will use when I get a job and in my everyday life.

What would be your top tip for students in the lead up to Results Day?

Enjoy the last few months of university. Remember that it’s not about the subjects that you did. It’s about the skills and qualities you learn because they will help you when you apply for jobs and communicate with other people.
