Our four year MEng (Hons) Biomedical Engineering course is delivered in a way that is unique to Aston. You will complete years one to three alongside the BEng students. Fourth year modules are uniquely delivered via distance learning, allowing you to undertake them whilst on an internship, work placement or in employment in the biomedical engineering industry, applying what you have learnt to your real-life work. The course is designed to provide an academic and practical understanding of engineering systems and applications in the medical field. You will develop a deep understanding of the human physiology and the biological functions of the body. Specific emphasis is put on engineering knowledge and practical skills. In addition, you will gain a masters degree and have completed relevant work experience within 4 years (rather than the traditional 5) and have the potential to be employed after the end of your third year.As a Biomedical Engineer, you will be entering the profession at a time of exciting change and innovation. Biomedical Engineers have the skills and flexibility to be involved in a wide number of activities from the development of novel devices to the delivery of expert services directly to patients.Biomedical engineers can have varied careers in many environments, including hospitals, private and public research facilities, medical institutions, universities and government agencies.**Key course benefits:**- Accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and meets the academic requirement in full for Chartered Engineer registration.- Opportunity to complete several clinical and manufacturing visits designed to inspire innovation and entrepreneurship.- Access to state of the art facilities, including 3D computer laboratories as well as a walk-in 3D environment (CAVE).- We are partners in the Medical Device Testing and Evaluation centre (MD-TEC) based in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. You will have access to over 100 companies developing real-world health products and seeking graduate employees in an entrepreneurial environment with mock operating theatres and wards.
