Our degree has been carefully designed to maximise your enjoyment of your mathematical study, while preparing you at each stage for work at the next level. In addition to scheduled contact time, our staff offer flexible drop-in times, which you may use for additional small group or one-to-one support.

Why study this course with us?

The Mathematics Department is located on the University’s Thornton Science Park. This offers you a unique opportunity to study in excellent facilities and alongside on-site science and technology employers. This modern learning environment has been designed with the aim of maximising the employability of our graduates.

This course will meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation, awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, when it is followed by subsequent training and experience in employment to obtain equivalent competences to those specified by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for taught Masters degrees.

Staff actively encourage a high level of student involvement in the teaching and learning process. Small year-group sizes allow for a more personal learning experience for our students.

Teaching methods

Many taught sessions are lecture and classroom based. Staff encourage an environment where you will be comfortable to seek support, practise questions and discuss your work with other students in small groups.

Assessment

Assessment involves examinations, in-class tests and coursework (including worksheets, projects and investigative work). These provide the opportunity to develop theoretical understanding of the topics, experience in using specialist software and insight into applications of Mathematics.
