University of Aberdeen was founded in 1495 by Bishop Elphinstone at Kings College, Aberdeen. It is the 5th oldest university in the UK and provides a stunningly beautiful backdrop to studying at the university. Many of its original subjects are taught today and it continues its European Paris and Bologna model, global research and teaching focus. Old Aberdeen is a heritage tourism attraction in its own right in the cosmopolitan city of Aberdeen. Aberdeen hosts the European energy industry and over 20 FTSE companies with global connections. The city is compact and architecturally very interesting due to its European trading past.
