Qualification Detailed advice
GCE A-level: BBB For First Year Entry a minimum of 3 A Levels at BBB or 4 AS at AABB.For Second Year Entry a minimum of an A in the subject selected for Single Honours plus BB, or AB in the subjects selected for Joint Honours plus a further B.GCSE in English or English Language is also required.
SQA Higher: AABB Minimum of 4 Highers at AABB obtained at a single sitting or 3 Advanced Highers at BBB. Those seeking to qualify over two sittings will be expected to exceed this minimum.Also required: English at Standard Grade 1, 2 or 3 or National 5 at Grades A, B or C.
SQA Advanced Higher: ABB Second year entry may be possible in most school based subjects. A minimum of ABB overall in Adv Higher is required. Adv Higher at A in the subject selected for Single Honours or AB in the subject selected for Joint Honours.

The Course

Summary

This applied degree is designed to meet the needs of future translators and interpreters. Develop a high level of proficiency in two languages and gain practical experience of this in a period of residence abroad. You will gain a high degree of proficiency and communicative competence in two foreign languages as well as the translation and interpreting skills needed to carve out a career in the expanding market. The innovative combination of academic and vocational elements will open doors for students and provide valuable transferable skills. Gain fluency in your chosen languages and develop knowledge and practical skills in translation and interpreting.

Students are assessed by any combination of three assessment methods: coursework such as essays and reports completed throughout the course; practical assessments of the skills and competencies they learn on the course; and written examinations at the end of each course. The exact mix of these methods differs between subject areas, years of study and individual courses. Honours projects are typically assessed on the basis of a written dissertation.
