The Course


The course is aimed at current or aspiring community education practitioners. Community education is an expanding professional area that contributes to youth and community practices. Community educators work with people of all ages and abilities to facilitate individual and social change that enhances the chance for making a good life. The programme is underpinned by theories and practices in equality and social justice, human flourishing, engagement and participation. The programme is designed to meet the rigorous Qualifying Standards for Professional Approval via the Community Learning and Development Standards Council. Our unique blend of on-campus, on-line and practice based learning engages students in learning and research that prepares them for employment in community settings such as adult education, community development and youth work.Our programmes are strategically important and at the forefront of meeting policy priorities across community learning, adult education, youth work, community regeneration and lifelong learning. Our BA (Hons) students develop their knowledge and understanding of: working in and with communities across areas of youth work, adult education and community development; analysing and assessing the social and cultural contexts of communities, in order to work with others to create and develop learning that expresses the philosophies and purposes of CLD; the importance of continuing professional development and their role as reflective practitioners in developing the profession, now and in future and research methods and practices that can be applied in a range of community contexts.
