Course summary

Birkbeck’s Law LLB teaches you the foundational areas of law required by the legal profession and provides you with the key skills and knowledge to move towards successfully qualifying as a lawyer. You will gain highly transferable legal skills that are also valuable in other careers beyond the legal sector.On our LLB Law, you will develop a sound knowledge and understanding of law across a range of foundational and specialist subjects. You will also learn to identify the political, economic, commercial, social and cultural factors that inform how we understand the law and the problems, tensions and contradictions within certain legal theories and doctrines.Upon graduating, you will be ready to:- prepare for the Solicitors’ Qualifying Exam (SQE)- apply for a place on the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC), or- pursue a range of other careers.Teaching on this LLB Law is very flexible to respond to the needs of our students - depending on the module, we offer classes in the daytime, evening, on campus or online. If you opt for the Foundation Year route, this will fully prepare you for undergraduate study. It is ideal if you are returning to study after a gap, or if you have not previously studied the relevant subjects, or if you didn't achieve the grades you need for a place on your chosen undergraduate degree.

This comprehensive support links our students and recent graduates with top UK employers and offers you help with job applications, interviews and career planning. - As a Birkbeck law student, you will be able to take part in our Legal Practice Conversation series. In these workshops, lawyers and Birkbeck graduates discuss their work and offer advice and inspiration to students looking to pursue a law career. Recent speakers have discussed the Pfizer/AstraZeneca takeover bid, international human rights, sports law, and litigation brought on behalf of veterans of the 1950s nuclear testing programme on Christmas Island.- The LLB is accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, and students awarded the degree will be entitled to receive a Certificate of Completion of the Academic Stage of Legal Education for solicitors. It is also recognised by the Bar Standards Board as a qualifying law degree for the purposes of completing the Academic Stage of Training for the Bar. The degree is accredited as LLB Law.- Full-time students have the option of choosing daytime teaching that involves two to three days' attendance on campus with all classes taking place after midday. You will have access to high-quality online learning resources and can study and complete the course by attending during the day. Careers and employability

Birkbeck LLB graduates have gone on to pursue successful careers at the bar and as solicitors. They can also use their degree to advance in positions in:- journalism- banking- human resources- creative entrepreneurship.
