Course summary

Law is a hugely diverse field with so many paths you can go down. This degree is your classic route into the profession. You’ll cover fundamental subjects like contract and criminal law, but you’ll also have the freedom to explore areas you’re passionate about like human rights, intellectual property, corporate, property, family or medical law all supported by experts in their field. You can even apply to work in our on-campus pro-bono legal advice clinic as a volunteer or as part of your degree. At Leicester Law School, our research-led teaching is delivered through lectures, tutorials and seminars. In small group tutorials of around twelve to fifteen students, you’ll receive individual support to make sure you have fully understood the topic. You can broaden your perspective with an optional year studying overseas, or make a difference by giving free legal advice to real clients and communities through our Pro-Bono group. We will encourage you to build practical skills through our award-winning extracurricular activities. The Law LLB is the traditional route into the legal profession and gives you the freedom to explore the areas of law that most interest you with a wide variety of optional modules. It is an excellent stepping-stone to graduate level employment as a thought-provoking and challenging subject, giving you legal knowledge and transferable skills such as reasoning, research and problem solving. Your study will take a variety of approaches, including problem-solving, analysis of cases and statutes, examining the role of law within its social, economic and political context. The foundation subjects that you will study are recognised by the Bar Standards Board and essential for future qualification as a solicitor through the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s approved qualification routes.Throughout the course you will study the core branches of law with freedom to choose your modules from a broad list of specialist areas. This will broaden your understanding of the legal system, and help you make an informed decision about which area of law you might wish to pursue after graduation. As you gain an understanding of the legal system, you will refine your own thought processes and become well-practiced in adapting your problem-solving skills to real-life scenarios. You will graduate with guidance for completing the Solicitor’s Qualifying Exam and barrister training courses. Employment prospects are excellent with 95% of our law students employed (or studying for a Master’s degree) six months after graduating (DLHE). The analytical and practical skills you will learn will be your platform to a successful career in whichever field you choose.
