Course Summary

Enhance your career options with a year-long industrial placement with employers which include local accountancy firms or national organisations such as the NHS. During this year, you will not pay fees to the University and will earn a wage for the work that you do. Our Accounting and Finance degree courses were placed 1st for student satisfaction by the Complete University Guide 2017. If you are seeking a high-level career in accountancy, finance, banking, insurance, the public sector or general management, this course will equip you with the skills you need. The course team has excellent relations with local employers and national accounting bodies - you will benefit from exemptions in the following professional exams: Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA); the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA); the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ACAEW); and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance Accountants (CIPFA). The course also includes opportunities to attend guest lectures and take part in business simulation games. The Professional Development module in the second year helps you to develop the skills you need – presentation skills, networking, interview techniques etc – to move more easily into successful employment. Through the Study Abroad programme, you could choose to spend your second year studying on an international exchange with one of our global partner institutions in Europe, the US or the rest of the world.You can enhance your career options with a year-long industrial placement giving you the opportunity to apply the skills, knowledge and understanding you have gained in the first two years of the course. You will work with an employer which could be a local, national or international organisation – in 2016-17 these included companies such as Ernst & Young and the NHS. During this year, you will not pay fees to the University and will earn a wage for the work that you do. The industrial placement year is recognised by CIMA and ACCA as one of the three years of postgraduate experience required for formal certification.There are different entry requirements and course codes for the Professional Experience Year option. This degree is also offered with a Foundation Year.
