Course Summary

Classical & Archaeological Studies is very interdisciplinary in nature making it an ideal joint honours subject. Students of Italian will appreciate the opportunity to compare these with ancient languages such as Latin and Greek, and tracing the influence of the ancient world on modern day Italian culture. Archaeology, meanwhile, draws interpretative strands from many disciplines including anthropology and philosophy, so joint honours will give you a head start with archaeological interpretation. Italy is the cornerstone of culture, with the Roman Empire once spanning continent and leaving behind a rich heritage that informs our thinking today. By learning Italian, you give yourself a tool to explore this cultural richness and to open your eyes to Italy’s Roman heritage, the Renaissance, modern architecture, fashion and car design. Italian is spoken not only in its home country, but also by over 15 million people in Switzerland, North America and Australia.
