Course Summary

Forensic investigation is a broad and fascinating area of study that predominantly prepares you for work in the field of criminal investigation, although the principles and skills you learn can be applied in a variety of scientific and investigative contexts.Taught by professional practitioners, highly-qualified academic staff, and industry-savvy guest speakers, in a variety of stimulating environments, including multiple field trips, and dedicated science, IT and crime scene teaching labs, this exciting degree looks at the forensic investigation of crime scenes and disaster investigations.Year one is shared with students taking BSc (Hons) Forensic Science, so should you discover the scientific aspects of the course to be more appealing, there is the option to switch degrees at the end of the year. Alongside this, year two and the final year of the course provides the opportunity to study option units, meaning you can tailor your studies to suit your personal goals, interests and career aspirations. To lend valuable real world experience to your education you’ll undertake a five or 30-week work placement, depending on the length of the course you choose, in year three, and in years two and three/four you’ll custom build your curriculum; to bring your learning in line with your interests and future career ambitions. Graduates can move on to typical starting job roles in areas such as Collision Investigators, Junior Forensic Investigators and Lab Technicians to name a few. 89% of students say that staff are good at explaining things (NSS, 2018).
