Course Summary

At Keele University, we’re different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. We’re proud to be ‘University of the Year for Student Experience’ in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, in addition to having been ranked No.1 in the National Student Survey 2014-2016. This is because it’s more than green and lovely, it’s a place of research and academic excellence too. You’ll study literature from Shakespeare to the present day, with optional modules in subjects such as medieval, post-colonial, American and Canadian literatures, and film. You’ll learn about the creative processes and compile your own portfolios of creative writing, while sharing ideas with your fellow students in a vibrant community of Keele creative writers. There are opportunities to spend a semester or a whole additional year at a partner university – which could be in Europe, Australia, Canada or the USA. In the beautiful surroundings of Keele Hall, you can enjoy readings from an exciting range of published poets and novelists. You will develop a wide range of both subject-specific and transferable skills. These skills will open up a variety of exciting possible careers, whether directly related to the subject or not. You might go into publishing, journalism, teaching, advertising, or the broadcast media. Of course, you may want to pursue a career as a published writer, whether part-time or full-time. You could also choose to progress to higher study.
