Course Summary

Mathematics graduates, who are used to computing and to analytical and structured thinking and who have a high level of competence in problem solving skills are in considerable demand in a wide variety of areas of employment. This degree programme will provide you with both mathematical knowledge and these skills, while at the same time allowing you to pursue your own interests within mathematics. On the BSc in Mathematics at the University of Southampton you will develop your skills in analytical, abstract and structured thinking in a programme that covers the full range of mathematics from modern cryptography to the modelling of black holes. Our programme, taught by world-class researchers, will give you a structured foundation of algebra, calculus, number theory, statistics and mathematical modelling. You will acquire skills and knowledge from an exceptionally broad range of topics covering Pure and Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research, shaping your programme to fit your interests and ambitions.
