Course Summary

Our unique interdisciplinary degree will develop your understanding of our marine environment and how it interacts with the Earth’s processes. You will gain an in-depth knowledge of oceanography and the study of the ocean and its relationship to the planet, whilst complimenting your study with modules in physical geography. You will gain a full picture of the Earth from its core, through to the ocean and land right up to the atmosphere. Our students typically spend 75% of their degree in Oceanography with 25% in Physical Geography. Taught by expert staff, you will be part of an innovative research environment with access to cutting edge facilities including our dedicated research vessels, which are moored just minutes away from our lecture theatres. In year-three you will complete an independent project in one of our research groups. Fieldwork is an integral part of the course and you will be coached in a variety of current fieldwork techniques in a number of exciting locations.All of our Oceanography courses are accredited by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST).
