This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Placements are usually at a major construction firm or consultancy. The placement year can contribute towards your professional experience requirement for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors' Assessment of Professional Competence and the Chartered Institute of Building's Professional Review.Previous students have spent their placement working as a site managers for national construction firms, assistant project managers for national firms, an HR and recruitment consultant, health and safety manager, a design manager and as a consultant engineer. There are also opportunities to work abroad. Recently students have taken placements with companies in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.**Field trips**Field trips on this course include local excursions, trips to UK cities and a project-based visit, which is commonly a major European city.
