You will build a portfolio of work over your degree, preparing you for a rewarding career in an exciting industry.**How you learn**This course is part of the Sheffield Institute of Arts — our creative community within Sheffield Hallam.We aim to provide you with an understanding of design culture and design practice through live projects and potential work placements. This strategy ensures that you are ready for key career decisions you need to make, and the employment opportunities you encounter. The Career Readiness Programme within our Employability Strategy equips you with the career management and employability skills to create your own future success by supporting transition through each academic level and into highly skilled employment. The course has been designed to create graduates that will positively shape the world they will live and work within. We expose you to work experience, placement opportunities and internship schemes and support overseas work experiences, self-employment, entrepreneurship and enterprising start-ups.**Work placements**You will have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years. This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Past students have secured placements with companies such as YourStudio, Mynt Design and Fosters and Partners. Other students have completed placements abroad in Dubai, Melbourne, LA and New Zealand. As part of your course there are also opportunities to study abroad through the Erasmus programme.**Live projects**You will work on live projects throughout your degree where you can intellectually and creatively develop ideas and your technical abilities. You will have the chance to work on socially driven community projects and commercial opportunities. In the past students have designed and developed projects around homelessness, theatre, exhibitions, galleries, student accommodation and luxury spas.**Field trips**You will visit cultural centres to see design and architecture in the wider world, normally previous trips have included London and Edinburgh which is covered by your course fees.
