Course summary
A nurse needs to be able to assess care needs then plan implement and evaluate care for people with a wide range of illnesses. This calls for excellent communication skills and compassion as well as specialist knowledge and nursing skills all of which you acquire from this degree.Fifty per cent of your time is spent in practice learning to provide care across a range of settings including medical and surgical nursing, care of older people, community nursing, and acute nursing. The other 50% of your time is university based learning in the classroom in individual study and simulated practice environments.Areas of study include care across the lifespan; assessment and interventions; complex care; public health; planning delivering and coordinating care; and advocacy empowerment and protection.

In practice settings you are supervised by practitioners trained to support your learning - Benefit from University facilities that include new simulation labs with state-of-the-art medical mannequins so you can experience real-life scenarios in a safe and supported environment- Successful completion of the course leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council allowing you to practise as an adult nurse in accordance with the NHS Constitution (see below)- You will also receive at least £5,000 a year, with further funding available for eligible students with the NHS bursary.The NHS Constitution brings together details of what staff patients and the public can expect from the National Health Service. It sets out the principles and values that guide how the NHS should act and make decisions. The NHS Constitution states that the NHS 'aspires to the highest standards of excellence and professionalism'. Applicants are expected to demonstrate their understanding and application of these values throughout the selection process.
