Course Summary

Game Art degree mixes creativity and talent with the latest technology and academic rigour. Our authentic, studio-based work and live briefs will boost your graduate prospects in the games development industry. You'll graduate with a portfolio of practical skills, creative abilities and technical expertise to develop successful game content. You will master industry software to create 2D and 3D concepts, while exploring the art of making games. You'll also learn to analyse artistic and cultural value and gain a critical appreciation of the mainstream and indie sectors. From concept art development to 3d character design or environmental asset creation, you will find your own passion and path in an ever growing and fast moving discipline. This course allows authentic experience of working alongside programmers to create games, mirroring the real-world games industry. You are taught through a combination of interactive workshops and lectures, tutorials and group based tasks, to become a highly creative thinker in the exciting, fast-moving game development industry. Interactive lectures take a variety of formats and are intended to enable the application of learning through discussion and small group activities as well as technical instruction. Seminars enable the discussion and development of understanding of topics covered in lectures with a more conceptual or theoretical basis, and practical sessions in computer labs or dedicated art spaces are focussed on developing subject specific craft skills.

Game Art degree offers good graduate prospects for working within the Game Development Industry or related areas. This includes: 3D Character Art, Environmental Art, Concept Art, Technical Art, UI/UX design, Level Art and Design, VFX, Animation. Game Development is an expanding sector in the creative industries. The West Midlands is identified as the region with the highest number of employees in the game industry in the UK. The University is therefore ideally placed for work placement opportunities for Game Art students and graduates.
