Course Summary

Our integrated masters course in Civil Engineering and Architecture is aimed primarily at those who wish to pursue a career in structural engineering design and focuses on structures, the use of materials, construction processes and their importance in developing sustainable urban, social and economic environments.

The first two years are shared with our other Civil Engineering courses where you develop a broad scientific and engineering in-depth knowledge of the subject. The third and fourth years focus on challenging design projects jointly taught by structural engineers and architects that support you to become highly proficient and confident design engineers highly sought after by industry.

The course includes modules from the MEng Civil Engineering with further architecture modules taught jointly by structural engineers and architects. In each year, you will be able to apply wide ranging design principles to engineering projects.

The first two years will provide you with core knowledge in mechanics, structures, materials, thermofluids and construction management. The third year introduces urban design and will further develop your knowledge of structures and geotechnics.

You will have the opportunity to tailor your degree to your interests in your final year with your choice of specialist option modules.

Design is integral to all our engineering courses. You will develop key design skills that you will apply throughout the course through a range of individual and group projects that support the development of innovative engineering solutions to the project briefs set.

You can also take the Industrial Placement Year, which is an additional year-long module that allows you to apply for a placement with an engineering-based organisation. The successful placement will be recognised on your Degree Certificate.
