This course is extremely flexible, offering a broad range of optional modules that allow you to pursue your interests for the written word, from Shakespeare right through to travel writing. Our TESOL course will allow you to enjoy a wide and varied range of modules and when combined with our English degree will open many career possibilities for you such as the opportunity to teach English internationally. This joint honours degree is ideal for anyone who is interested in professional and creative writing and will enhance your written and verbal communication. Our English degree will enhance your learning for the TESOL part of the joint honours degree, where you'll be able to practically apply your learning from the English course to then be in a position to teach English to foreign learners. 92% of our English students would recommend studying at NTU (NSS 2019). Our English course is taught by expert academics and award-winning writers. You'll examine a range of literature such as; Shakespeare, American literature, Black writing in Britain, travel writing and modern poetry. This course has been designed to help enhance your talents and strengths as well as provide you with the skills and knowledge for a successful career, by offering you projects and placement opportunities with NTU's creative partnerships. If you're passionate about writing and communication then combining English with our TESOL degree will be ideal for you to enhance your communication skills and to gain an in-depth understanding of the English language. TESOL at NTU will open up many new and varied career prospects both nationally and internationally. You'll learn how to plan and deliver English Language lessons to a range of people with different abilities. You'll be given opportunities on a regular basis to practice teaching in the classroom and gain an insight into English language and linguistics, which will help you to discover modern methods of how to teach the English language. You'll also have the chance to take the Teaching Knowledge Test and the Cambridge CELTA qualification, which are both globally recognised qualification for English Language teachers.A degree in English will strengthen your professional and creative writing. You'll develop strong verbal and written communication and will be able to think critically and contextualise theoretical approaches to the study of English. Our TESOL course will provide you with the necessary knowledge to teach English to foreign learners. The course will also enhance your planning skills, organisation and understanding of the English language. Our graduates have gone on to work in a variety of roles including; teaching English to asylum seekers and refugees in UK colleges, journalism, marketing, publishing and recruitment. 97% of our joint honours English undergraduates are in work or further study within just six months of finishing their degree (DLHE 2016/17).
