Course Summary

This is an international conversion programme to enhance your employment options. It assumes no knowledge at undergraduate level, so graduates from many disciplines can study and gain an MScEcon from two inter-related disciplines. The programme offers you internationally employable skills, methodology and knowledge across finance and accountancy, valuable for wide range of high-level business administration positions, starting a business, working in multinational business, studying for a PhD, consultancy and more.

  • Additionally, you can gain professional accreditation and certification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants (England and Wales)
  • Accountancy and Finance is ranked 10th in the UK and 3rd in Scotland (CUG 2020)

The programme provides you with the dual strengths and understanding to ensure that you can apply your knowledge to a wealth of practical applications in the financial world, and work across the disciplines easily. Accounting and Finance disciplines are required by many industries and the dual focus offered at Aberdeen widens your future employment options.

You can further gain certification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants (England and Wales) and there are other certificates in trading and international reporting which are optional. You have access to a trading room which is used by major international financial service companies whilst you study.

You study quantitative analysis methods, challenges in corporate finance, accounting, economic analysis, portfolio analysis, international accounting and management accounting with further options available.

You study in The Business School. It offers you internationally focused programmes which are designed to give you both academic rigour and professional focus. The School a member of AACSB which is a global association of leaders in education and business, supporting quality business education worldwide. It is ranked in the UK top 3 for world leading research (REF 2014) and the programme benefits from industry links in the city and internationally. The Business School has close links with multinational FTSE 100 companies in the city.

The careers service offers you mentoring, volunteering, internships, placements, enterprise start-up support. competitions, events and resources to support employability.
