Course Summary

**Drawing is at the very heart of contemporary creative thinking; at AUB you will explore drawing as an extension of thinking.**Drawing has boundless possibilities – it can communicate thoughts, ideas, abstract concepts and can exist in diverse forms such as sculpture, surface, installation, film, performance and digital. By its very nature it is positioned at the heart of contemporary practice.**What you will learn**Through practical workshops, lectures and briefs, students will explore the close relationship between drawing and thinking. Students will develop skills in both traditional and digital drawing, studying everything from museum and gallery collections, to architecture and landscapes. You’ll use drawing as a fundamental tool to investigate and examine other disciplines. You’ll explore drawing through engaging with digital and traditional processes and techniques. As the course progresses, your developing practice will be informed by digital and haptic drawing techniques and processes. Your ongoing professional transferable skills will be supported by collaboration, and you will go onto contextualise your drawing practice with curatorial projects. You will be equipped to engage with contemporary practice, some of which will be at the forefront of your chosen field, and you will be able to interrogate and challenge the nature of drawing practice. You will have an understanding of what drawing can be in all its forms. You will be critically reflective and able to learn independently in preparation for professional environments or postgraduate study. You will be confident in working within Art and Design and the Cultural Industries and have experience of collaborating with others. You will be adept in utilising a broad range of traditional and digital creative processes. You will have an understanding of your own distinct creative signature and therefore able to effectively communicate with your chosen audience.**By the end of the course you will be able to...**- Relate specialist knowledge through employing haptic and digital skills in relation to contemporary drawing practice.- Make coherent drawn statements integrating observation, analysis, interpretation, and speculation.- Develop and refine arguments through a continuing engagement with cultural, social, environmental, theoretical and historical frameworks.- Use research skills with an understanding of relevant protocols. Provide reasoned solutions, recognising the uncertainty and limits of knowledge.- Critically evaluate discourses and contemporary practices, making informed judgements using an appropriate range of sources from both within and beyond the field of drawing.- Demonstrate professional behaviour through working independently and collaboratively with others.- Extend your academic learning as an independent, self-reflective and creative practitioner, fully prepared for professional environments or postgraduate study.**Studios and resources** Studying on the BA (Hons) Drawing course, you’ll have access to our purpose-built CRAB Drawing Studio – designed by Professor Sir Peter Cook RA. Our Drawing Studio is the first purpose-built drawing studio to be constructed at an art school for more than a century.
