International Graduate Diploma: Dance and English Graduate Diploma
This intensive, full–time programme in dance and English language is designed for international students to achieve an English Language qualification alongside specialist dance training to enable them to qualify for entry to taught postgraduate studies in dance in the UK, and to work towards individual learning, training, and professional goals. Students on this programme undertake practical studies at graduate level in contemporary dance practice. There are three core modules: Contemporary Dance Technique, which provides progressive focussed technical learning in contemporary dance; Choreography, in which students develop an understanding of their own artistry and aesthetic concerns; Choreological Practice, where students utilise embodied understanding of the structures of human movement and apply that to dance practice.
The Programme consists of 1200 notional learning hours: approx. 800-900 contact hours (including tutorials); approx. 300-380 self-directed learning hours. Contact hours and self-directed learning hours are different for each Module. Learning will take place through a blend of formal tuition, experiential learning and personal study. English Language teaching will take place in small groups with dialogue and contextualised language at the heart of the process. Students will be set weekly tasks in an approach that seeks to prepare students thoroughly for the required assessments in an immersive experience with English as the medium for instruction. Learning modes will be varied, with students encouraged to use multiple resources to support their learning, and to engage in regular peer-peer dialogue in English.
