Course Summary

An industry focused programme within chemical and process engineering relevant for multiple areas such as energy, pharmaceuticals, food and environment. You gain core elements plus design and practice to select from optional courses in specific industries which are: clean energy, process safety, fine chemicals, oil and gas, waste, agrochemicals, consultancy, management studies and environmental protection. Many of these industries are now using the latest advances in Industry 4.0 to provide new tools and innovations in these industry areas and the analytical and practical knowledge you develop will be relevant globally.

Courses include a mix of compulsory and optional modules in: Separation and Product Purification, Air and Water Pollution Control; Computational Fluid Dynamics, Upstream Oil and Gas Processing, Process Risk Identification and Management, Loss of Containment, Catalyst and Reactor Design, Process Design, Layout and Materials, Process Plan Equipment and Operations, Mathematical Optimisation, Applied Risk Analysis and Management, Human Factors Engineering and your project.

There are a mix of career opportunities open to you within industrial fields which include oil and gas processing, petrochemicals, fine chemicals, the drinks industry, clean energy, waste management, materials, agrochemicals, process safety, consultancy and technical areas.

The School of Engineering offers knowledge transfer partnerships, commercialisation and proof of concept, spin-out companies and consultancy, all of which enhance its teaching. Further centres include the National Decommissioning Centre which offers the latest advanced workshop facilities. You are welcome to attend events and seminars in the school and networking events within the city. You can also take advantage of relevant societies and practical facilities to support your studies.
