- Study your foundation year, then progress to the full degree.- Develop important art and design skills from the very first day.- Experiment with a variety of techniques and materials.- Undertake applied projects and explore different ways of working.This foundation year has been designed to encourage exploration and experimentation in art and design. You’ll learn to work confidently and creatively with a wide range of different materials. After completing your foundation, you’ll have the skills and knowledge you need for full honours degree study, and progress directly onto the BA Interior Architecture and Design course.**How you learn**This course is part of the Sheffield Institute of Arts — our creative community within Sheffield Hallam.The course is suitable if you don't meet the entry requirements for our BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree–level study. You share the first year with other art and design foundation year students, then move on to the degree.We aim to provide you with an understanding of design culture and design practice through live projects and potential work placements. You will learn how to create innovative designs, critically reflect on projects and learn skills that reflect your personal interests and career aspirations.**You learn through**- lectures and group tutorials- live projects- work placements- creative workshops- studio–based project work- seminars and peer–to–peer discussionsIn the foundation year, you'll be introduced to a range of art and design disciplines as you develop your existing skills and familiarise yourself with Sheffield Hallam. You'll also gain a sound understanding of the creative industries and learn how to progress towards a career within them. This will be reinforced by challenging briefs that require you to push the boundaries of your knowledge and skills.**Applied learning**This course is part of the Sheffield Institute of Arts — our creative community within Sheffield Hallam.The course is suitable if you don’t meet the entry requirements for our BA Interior Architecture and Design course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree-level study.
