Course summary
BA Fine Art Drawing at Camberwell College of Arts explores drawing as an expanded field of practice within contemporary art. This course will encourage you to develop your understanding of the subject as not necessarily limited to marks on paper and to appreciate ways it can be both traditional and up to date. It will look at how drawing is interpreted virtually, spatially and across disciplines.
What to expect• To use drawing as an end in itself, but also for exploring other modes of art practice like film, installation, performance and sculpture• To be introduced to key terms that have always defined drawing and understand the frameworks in which they might hold multiple meanings• To look at how drawing is used in disciplines outside art. For example, medicine, architecture and dance choreography• To explore ideas and approaches from a vast array of perspectives within multicultural, creative environments and in relation to history, location and identity• To take part in cross-course crits and tutorials. Second year activities and exhibitions will give you a chance to discuss your work with other students on the Fine Art programme at Camberwell• To participate in shared practical workshops and activities • To organise external projects. This will help you learn professional skills and develop a better understanding of the context of your work• To take part in an external exhibition. This will be with students from across Camberwell's BA Fine Art programme• A Fine Art lecture series. This is for all Camberwell undergraduate students studying Drawing, Painting, Photography, Sculpture and Computational Arts• To have access to Camberwell's shared workshops that include printmaking, photography, film, moving image, digital, plastic, ceramics, wood and metalwork. Taught studio sessions that compliment students’ work on:• Drawing and the body - an exploration of the body as object and subject on the page and in real space• Life drawing• Linear perspective and orthographic projection drawing.
